Salvador Duran will make his comeback in the FIA Formula E Championship, returning to the team with whom he made his debut as a replacement for the out-going Nathanael Berthon.

Following the news of Berthon’s departure from Team Aguri, Duran was immediately touted as the most likely replacement, having competed for the Anglo-Japanese squad from Punta del Este onwards in season one.

The Mexican was signed up for season two of the all-electric series with the Trulli team, before their ultimate withdrawal from the series following a run of no-shows in the opening rounds.

“I’m super happy to be back in the championship and back with Aguri,” Duran told Motorsport.com.

“The team has made changes since I have been away but I can see already they are going in the right direction.

“The reliability has been good and Antonio has been qualifying near the front and having some good races so I think I have made a good decision, and I am delighted to be working with the team and Antonio who is a good friend.”

Before joining the now-defunct Trulli team, Duran tested for Team Aguri in Donington, and believes his knowledge of the powertrain can help him to be competitive straight away.

“It will help me to get back in the rhythm for next weekend in Argentina for sure. I want to get back in to racing mode quickly and work with the new systems we have.

I want to compete for points. I know it will be hard, but that is what we are here for and I think we can do it.”

The Mexican’s first race in the series will take part in Buenos Aires next weekend, before competing in his home ePrix at the new circuit of Mexico City.
