Season two champion Sebastien Buemi led the way in the morning of the second test day in Valencia, leading the Mahindra Racing of Felix Rosenqvist by a slender 0.044s.
Daniel Abt had held onto the top spot in his Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler earlier in the session, before Oliver Turvey and Buemi started trading fastest times with an hour left to run, the latter ultimately ending the session in P1.
Not long before the end of the session Sam Bird circulated his DS Virgin in a time of 1:21.950s which was good enough for P2 behind Buemi, before Rosenqvist went slightly better with a time of 1:21.934s.
Following on from a stop-start session yesterday afternoon, the opening three hours of day two were relatively trouble-free, with the only red flag coming as a result of scattered debris at the first chicane, which required the marshals to inspect and move the barrier back into place.
Buemi’s Renault e.dams team-mate Nico Prost registered the third fastest time ahead of Abt and Jerome d’Ambrosio, while NIO’s latest signing Luca Filippi put in a solid performance to take P11, 0.7s behind Buemi’s pace-setting lap.
Two drivers made their debut appearance in an official test session, with MS&AD Andretti running DTM driver Tom Blomqvist while Venturi gave an outing to Moroccan Formula Renault 2.0 NEC driver Michaël Benyahia.
Blomqvist put in a solid amount of laps for the 18th fastest time, ahead of Benyahia who propped up the field in 20th, 0.7s slower than testing team-mate James Rossiter.
The afternoon session will commence at 2pm local time.
