It was a positive opening day of pre-season testing for the Renault e.dams squad, with season two champion Sebastien Buemi setting the second fastest time overall while Nico Prost ran within the top ten on the timing screens.
While Buemi showed his concern with the false chicane added to the main straight, his speed was not in question as he set a fastest time of 1:18.577s around the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
“It was an intensive day,” said the Swiss driver. “It’s not usual that we are testing with both cars so it was a good thing as we achieved a maximum of laps.
“I am satisfied with the performance of the car. I think we could still do better but overall, it was a strong day.”
Prost also had a productive day as he completed 82 laps with a fastest time of 1:19.097s, half a second behind pace-setter Oliver Turvey.
Speaking on his session, Prost said: “It was a strong day. We worked mostly on long runs during the afternoon session. The performance of the car was satisfying this morning and we are going to work in that direction tomorrow. In the end, it is really a positive day.”
Vincent Gaillardot, Director of Renault e.dams’ FE programme, was pleased with the number of laps achieved on day one as they focused on reliability in their season four package.
“Testing is all about getting the cars ready in the season 4 configuration,” said Gaillardot. “The development phase is over, therefore we are testing the cars with the homologated version for season four to make sure there are no reliability issues. We achieved a strong tally of 126 laps today, which is a good thing.”
